Describe your business, nonprofit or project, and the products and/or services you offer?
Liz-Desir Travel Group is a U.S. based travel company that hosts and curates group trips for individuals (primarily women) to participate in organized activities and experiences throughout various destinations across the globe. Our clients (travel community members) are welcome to join solo or with a friend to engage in immersive and cultural experiences, all while creating new friendships and connections. Additionally, we provide private trip consulting services for individuals planning their international trip who may need help navigating and finding the perfect accommodations, activities, and experiences for their getaway. In terms of our group trips (service) we offer payment plan options in order for our travel community to plan their travels with ease – without the planning part!
Are you Caribbean or African, or of Caribbean or African descent? If you are, please tell us details.
I am both African and of African descent. I was born in the United States as a first-generation American, however, both of my parents are from West Africa (Cote D’Ivoire) where I had the privilege of living for several years throughout my childhood. I absolutely love my homeland and consider Cote D’Ivoire to be my home – because it is! My African identity is fully embedded in my roots, culture, and traditions.
Do you think your Caribbean or African upbringing/heritage has impacted your work? If so, please explain how.
My African upbringing and heritage has impacted not only my work, but also who I am as a person. Since childhood, both of my parents have instilled in me my ties to my homeland. This is not limited to just the food that I eat or the music I listen to. It also transcends language as I started to understand French before having even moved to Cote D’Ivoire since this was intentionally spoken by my parents at home. Leaving the United States at the age of five to move to Cote D’Ivoire opened my eyes to so much, especially how big the world is and the distinct differences in culture and overall environment. Within just a few months of being there I fell in love with the country, my school, and had an amazing group of friends. Once I came back to the United States, I traveled to a few countries but Cote D’Ivoire, remained my number one. These experiences inspired me to pursue a degree in Business, focusing on international business and global studies. This included working on various projects, sharing my country’s culture and history. Living abroad showed me how important it is to be open-minded and to step out of one’s comfort zone. It has also increased my natural curiosity of the world as a whole and the different cultures, infrastructure, and history in all corners of the world. To date I’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to visit numerous countries and witness firsthand the African diaspora across the globe. I am able to spot similarities, and it is reminiscent of my background and my home. I am thankful for having had the opportunity to learn more about Cote D’Ivoire while living there, which years later, after many different experiences and travels, drove me to explore new places solo and establish my travel business. Through my work I am able to share my experiences with others and witness the deep impact it has on people who are either experienced travelers or traveling to a new place for the first time.
How does your work positively impact culture + community?
Liz-Desir’s travel community consists primarily of women and people of color who may be reluctant to travel solo or whose group travel plans never move beyond the group chat. Our travel group offers the opportunity for individuals from all backgrounds to join and partake in well-planned, stress-free activities and experiences at various international destinations – all while creating more friendships and connections. To date we have a travel community of over 80 (and counting) trip members who share the desire to travel and who trust our travel group to provide a one-of-a-kind experience at a destination of their choosing. LDTG has existed for four years now and is on its way to offering group trip # 15. This is all thanks to our fantastic travel community!
How should potential customers and persons interested in networking & partnerships contact you?
I can be contacts through one of the following email info@lizdesirtravelgroup.com, or social media: Instagram (@Ldtravelgroup) / Facebook @Liz-Desir Travel Group
What message of hope or inspiration would you like to share with other women in our community who are also pursuing their dreams?
Do not wait to make your dream a reality! Go for it! Time goes by so quickly and the “what ifs” will hold you back and push that timeline even further. Also have both passion and consistency in all that you do, keep pushing for‐ ward even if you have doubts or aren’t too sure or thinking that “one post” isn’t pushing your product/service like that. Don’t listen to those doubts. You got this!
