Describe your business, nonprofit or project, and the products and/or services you offer?
At Paradigm Joy I provide holistic coaching, education and retreats.

With an emphasis on somatic (body-based) interventions, I use my skills in mental health, nervous system co-regulation, therapeutic yoga, meditation, mindfulness and self-compassion to create an environment of safety and to support people to relieve stress, recover from trauma, transform limiting beliefs, and cultivate self-compassion.

Coaching services are tailored to meet the needs of the client. I offer life, health, wellness and mental health coaching.

I offer bespoke yoga, meditation and mindfulness facilitation for individuals and groups as well as courses on self-compassion and overcoming racial stress and intergenerational trauma. For creatives, I offer a course on mindful photography.

I provide education and retreats related to fostering mental health and wellness. These services are designed to meet the unique needs of the client and may be in the form of a 1-hour webinar, special event, workshop or a wellness retreat.

My work is informed by over 20 years of experience in healthcare, mental health and wellness. Throughout my career, I have also worked on the front lines as a clinician, educator, in professional practice and as an administrator in acute and outpatient mental health.
Are you Caribbean or African, or of Caribbean or African descent? If you are, please tell us details.
I am of African descent with ancestors coming from the southern and western regions of Africa.

I am a Jamaican and Canadian Citizen, I spend my time between the 2 countries.

My mother is Jamaican and my father was African Canadian. My paternal great-great grandmother fled slavery from Delaware (USA) in the mid-1800s to Canada via the Underground Railroad.
Do you think your Caribbean or African upbringing/heritage has impacted your work? If so, please explain how.
My upbringing and heritage has impacted my work and is reflected in the work that I do.

As a Black woman, with firsthand experience of intergenerational trauma, racism and discrimination, it is a privilege that I am able to support others who may be having a hard time and may be experiencing challenges with their mental health, mindset and identity due to these factors. Although I serve diverse communities, I have tailored my services to the Black community and communities of colour.
How does your work positively impact culture + community?
My life’s work has been dedicated to helping others, mostly in cultivating mental health and wellness and living a fulfilling and meaningful life with mental illness. When we are healthy and have the support of a community, we can live to our fullest potential and thrive.

Helping individuals overcome stress, illness, injury, trauma and other health challenges and make healthy choices positively impacts culture and community. The health of one individual impacts the health of a community.

I have been fortunate to provide wellness services and retreats for may corporate partners, helping their employees to thrive in the workplace and to foster culture of psychological safety, mental health and wellness. I am well known for my work with healthcare workers and caregivers experiencing burnout, empathic strain, secondary traumatic stress and moral distress.
