Describe your business, nonprofit or project, and the products and/or services you offer? |
Through my work as a holistic nutrition and trauma-informed health coach, I support women of color in embracing healthier food choices and addressing the emotional and psychological factors that influence their health. I seek to make a lasting difference blending science and compassion to address the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit, to help people heal not just their bodies, but their spirits too. In serving these women, I’m not just offering health coaching; I’m extending a hand of sisterhood, saying, “I see you, I’ve been there, and together, we can write a new chapter of healing and empowerment. |
Are you Caribbean or African, or of Caribbean or African descent? If you are, please tell us details. |
I was born and raised on Montserrat with both parents also born and raised in the Caribbean. |
Do you think your Caribbean or African upbringing/heritage has impacted your work? If so, please explain how. |
My journey into health is really a story about family, roots, and discovering my passion. It began with a lifelong desire to make a meaningful impact on others, deeply inspired by my mother’s work as the nutrition officer for the government on the island of Montserrat. I saw firsthand how she changed lives through food and lifestyle changes. These early experiences were further enriched by our West Indian cultures, like growing and preparing organic, nutrient-dense produce and rearing animals on the natural land—an approach to health that emphasized the natural connection between body and environment. It wasn’t just about eating your veggies – it was this whole-person approach that resonated with me. Food was our medicine. That experience planted a seed in me (pun intended!) that kept growing. I pursued studies in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, health science, and applied clinical nutrition to deepen my understanding of how nutrition influences everything from cellular function to disease prevention. However, I realized pursuing conventional medicine and research wasn’t enough to create the impact I desired. I recognized the significant role mental and emotional factors play in whether we function optimally or not, which drew me toward a holistic approach. From an epigenetics standpoint, I believe in shifting how we respond to ourselves and outside stimulus so that we always thrive. |
How does your work positively impact culture + community? |
I desire to help people in underserved communities embrace healthier food choices and address the emotional and psychological factors that influence their health. That’s why I created my business to provide services that are designed to address both the physical and emotional well-being, focusing on creating sustainable, healthy lifestyles for women of color. My dream is to give back to my community, especially to alleviate the plight of women and girls where we learn how to thrive and live fully. |
What message of hope or inspiration would you like to share with other women in our community who are also pursuing their dreams? |
Having read ‘The Awakened Woman’ by Dr. Tererai Trent I say be the example to encourage more women to reexamine their ambitions and uncover the power hidden within them. We have the power to re-create this world one person at a time. Be the example of reclaiming our health, mind, voice, bodies and spirit whilst uprooting and healing from the experiences that affects us negatively. |
