We also offer culturally responsive training and DEI services to organizations that are interested in the process of being more inclusive and responsive to their staff and the communities that they serve. Further, I also offer consultancy for entrepreneurs and small business owners to be able to brainstorm and create a path forward for their business when they’ve been finding themselves stuck. In the space I have the fractional role of providing Emotional intelligence training to groups of people who want to become certified and licensed to use the psychometric level B tool that I use and I do this through another company that contracts with me to do that’s a very proud of being able to licensed people from all around the world and especially that it’s great when I’m able to do this for people who are of African or Caribbean countries |
Are you Caribbean or African, or of Caribbean or African descent? If you are, please tell us details. |
I am an African-American woman, and my knowledge of being that has been just generally from being born in the US however, we’ve taken the time more recently to trace back our roots and found that there’s ancestry and both gone on Nigeria |
Do you think your Caribbean or African upbringing/heritage has impacted your work? If so, please explain how. |
Yes, I do feel that growing up with African roots has impacted my work. We have been a culture of people who have been taught to work very hard however, in that sometimes people get burned out but what I’ve done is been able to spend that to make it away to be able to be you know best in class for what I do. Additionally, I have been able to use that to show others how to work smarter and not harder, but still shine at the level to which we shine in our cultures. It also has given me an opportunity to find flexibility, and to always be aware of my surroundings, which helps me to always also be aware of solutions and op |
How does your work positively impact culture + community? |
My Work impacts the culture positively in many ways. One I currently run a grassroots Facebook group which is a collective of black and brown women from you know with African roots and Caribbean roots and we have over 1600 small business owners and entrepreneurs in this group and in this group were able to help promote their businesses as well as to Give them training based on the skill set of people who are in the group. It is not a formal entity, but it is more of a grassroots collective. I’m also now a member of black clinicians meet, which is a. Group of both clinical and non-clinical professionals providing services whether it be Counseling, anger, management or training and or emotional intelligence or emotional well-being services to African and black Americans. |
What message of hope or inspiration would you like to share with other women in our community who are also pursuing their dreams? |
As far as a message of Hope is concerned, I purposely have my own noble goal. My noble goal is to inspire Hope even in challenging times and spaces while holding onto my own. That shows up in everything that I do when I go to the store if I see somebody having a bad day, I’ll say something nice to them and try to lift their day. I will also then thank the person who is taking out the trash or filling up the ketchup counter at a restaurant. In that space that is where I am able to say that, even in the toughest of spots we can still have hope. I know this to be true because even a homeless person hopes for warm shelter for the night. If they can do that, I can also remain hopeful about my business and about my quality of life and everything else that I have going for me and I would suggest to anyone if you ever feel hopeless about what you’re doing. Just remember that Hope is something that is never ending. You may have ups and downs, and you may have moments of time where it doesn’t feel that way, but reflect back on your life and the lives of others and see how you can continue to inspire Hope of the world. |
