Are you Caribbean or African, or of Caribbean or African descent? If you are, please tell us details.
Yes I am. Both of my parents are Haitians. I was born in the United States but raised in Haiti until the year of 2005 at which point I moved to the United States to further my education.
Do you think your Caribbean or African upbringing/heritage has impacted your work? If so, please explain how.
Growing up in Haiti in an entrepreneurial family, my Caribbean upbringing instilled in me a strong sense of resilience, hard work, and ambition. My father was an engineer who owned his own business, and my mother was a teacher who also owned and ran a convenience store—both of them demonstrated the power of determination and self-reliance. Losing my father in 2010 while I was in college in the States, while he remained in Haiti, deepened my drive to build something meaningful for myself. I decided to become a chiropractor, though for a time, I struggled with the balance of pursuing both being a doctor and a business owner. After graduating and encountering workplace discrimination—particularly as a Black woman in a male-dominated profession—I began to reflect deeply on my path and the importance of creating my own business. My Caribbean heritage and the resilience passed down from my parents taught me that challenges could be overcome by persistence and faith. These lessons inspired me to return to my original dream of owning my own practice so I could provide exceptional, equitable care, particularly to the Haitian and Black communities, without the fear of exploitation or inequity. My upbringing shaped my work ethic, my passion for service, and my commitment to creating a business built on trust, excellence, and fairness.
How does your work positively impact culture + community?
My chiropractic work positively impacts culture and community by promoting equitable access to quality care. By offering personalized, evidence-based treatments, I create a safe space where patients—particularly within the Haitian and Black communities—feel seen, valued, and understood. Many individuals in these communities face barriers such as limited access to care, financial strain, or discrimination within the healthcare system, and my practice seeks to break down those barriers by providing compassionate, affordable, and effective care without judgment. I also speak creole which helps to break the language barrier and allow my community to communicate in their native language. Additionally, through outreach, education, and culturally competent care, I work to challenge misconceptions about spinal health and wellness while highlighting the importance of preventative care. I also support my culture and community by sponsoring nonprofit organizations that provide scholarship to international (especially Haitian) students.
What message of hope or inspiration would you like to share with other women in our community who are also pursuing their dreams?
To all the incredible women in our community pursuing their dreams, never underestimate the power of your resilience, vision, and courage. Your journey is unique, and every obstacle you face is shaping you into the leader, innovator or in entrepreneur you’re meant to become. It’s ok to stumble along the way but never stop progressing. Trust in your purpose, honor your story, and give yourself permission to grow at your own pace. You are stronger than the challenges you’ll encounter. Keep going, believe in your vision, and know that your impact is far greater than you can see. Sometimes, you might even have to create your own chair at the table that you never know you would reach. You are capable. You’ve got this.
