Dr. Shelly-Ann is Changing the Mentorship Landscape in the Caribbean

Dr. Shelly-Ann Gajadhar embodies the spirit of transformation. A Certified Executive Coach, author, and CEO of Alphastute, she has carved a space for herself as a trailblazer in leadership and professional development. As an authority for mentorship in the Caribbean, her highly successful Go Bravely Mentorship Community is blazing trails, surpassing the scale and results of any other programs like it in the region.

“As a Caribbean woman in leadership myself, I found that many brilliant women from the region did not have a mentor or peer-to-peer expert mentor that can help them as they held or strived for positions of leadership,” Dr. Shelly-Ann shares. “As such, launching my community in 2020 was pivotal to creating change in the space, and also saw me turning down a university lectureship to wholeheartedly commit to the advancement of women in leadership.”

Go Bravely Mentorship Community is recognized as one of the top, benchmark communities on the Kajabi platform, noted for its ability to have genuine engagement and to consistently enroll women. The community currently has 200+ high achieving women from around the world.

Despite her amazing success, Dr. Shelly-Ann’s journey from a legal career in Trinidad and Tobago to founding a global consultancy is a testament to her resilience, focus on purpose, and the power of embracing change.

A Journey from Law to Alphastute

A former State Prosecutor, Dr. Shelly-Ann found herself at a crossroads after the sudden and violent loss of her legal mentor. Feeling unsafe and disillusioned with the profession, she pivoted toward business. “I left law because I no longer felt safe or enthused about the profession. I chose business because of the great opportunities it offered when paired with law,” she explains.

This career shift allowed her to merge her skills in research and advocacy with a client-centered approach, building a foundation for her future work as a coach and entrepreneur.

Alphastute was born out of her recognition of a gap in the market for accessible career advice and mentorship, particularly for Caribbean professionals. As a PhD student at King’s College London, she envisioned the profound benefits Caribbean young professionals could gain from guidance tailored to their unique needs. Alphastute’s mission became clear: to offer research-driven and exemplar advisory services in career, education, and business.

Dr. Shelly-Ann’s cultural identity as a Trinidadian woman has deeply influenced her journey. “The innate ability to be resourceful as a Trinbagonian woman has greatly influenced my journey,” she shares. She credits her mother’s resilience and encouragement for instilling the values that have guided her success.

Despite her achievements, building Alphastute has not been without challenges. One of the biggest hurdles she has faced is helping high-achieving women recognize the value of investing in their own professional development. “Shifting perspectives on self-worth and self-investment, particularly among Caribbean women, remains a challenge,” she says. Yet, her persistence has paid off. Her clients now include women in top leadership roles, such as Group CEOs and CFOs, who have sought her guidance to break barriers and make their voices count.

A Global Community of High-Achieving Women

Dr. Shelly-Ann’s mentorship extends beyond one-on-one coaching. She is the founder of the Go Bravely Mentorship Community, a global network of more than 200 high-achieving women. The community offers masterclasses on career, business, education, and healing, creating a space where members can learn, grow, and support one another. “What really makes this community different is the genuine sisterhood that the women forge offline and the celebration of a high-achieving woman’s femininity and softness,” she notes. The community has already seen remarkable success stories, with members launching businesses, securing promotions, and publishing books.

The Go Bravely Achievement Award

In addition to her mentorship programs, Dr. Shelly-Ann created the Go Bravely Achievement Award to honor women who exemplify bravery, resilience, and leadership. “Choosing ourselves and our growth is a radical act of self-love, and I wanted to reward women for that,” she says. The award highlights the transformative power of prioritizing self-development, as seen in the latest recipient Daisy Smith, who transitioned from a corporate role to entrepreneurship with the support of the mentorship community.

“The award is a way of celebrating women who decide to choose themselves in a big way,” Dr. Shelly-Ann shares.

Dr. Shelly-Ann’s advice to aspiring female entrepreneurs is as empowering as her work: “Stay true to your purpose and vision. Don’t worry about what someone else is doing. The dream chose you for a reason. Tunnel vision on and prayers up!”
