Are you Caribbean or African, or of Caribbean or African descent? If you are, please tell us details.
I was born and raised in the Caribbean island Trinidad & Tobago and grew up traversing between Trinidad and Saint Croix USVI. Today I spend my time between both islands.
Do you think your Caribbean or African upbringing/heritage has impacted your work? If so, please explain how.
Absolutely. The Sunbeam Chats Podcast was created in October 2021 because I saw that there was a “gap” and lack of diversity in the main stream and digital media, focusing on content created in the Caribbean and for the Caribbean people promoting Black and Brown Excellence. Specifically as it relates to businesses, startups and entrepreneurship. I am a black Marketing & Communication Professional and Consultant, and I have worked in many sectors, thankfully I was blessed to have a great Career thus far, but still suffered from being passed over or not seen over the years.

There are a lot of people (us) who are not seen or heard and never get the opportunity to have a seat at the table, let alone be in the rooms. This Podcast therefore is a platform for them to be seen, for the world to see that we are many and educated and doing amazing things in the region and around the world. We can see and support each other in the “fight”.
How does your work positively impact culture + community?

What message of hope or inspiration would you like to share with other women in our community who are also pursuing their dreams?
I think it is first very important for women/ us to “Know thyself” according to Socrates, If we first do not know ourselves we do not know what we are capable of doing and how we can help others. Immanuel Kant, puts it this way… It is an ethical commandment to know one’s own heart and to understand the motives behind one’s actions, in order to harmonize one’s will with one’s duty. This is especially important for those of us who desire to be in service to others and the community.

Once we know who we are, it becomes clearer to become and to pursue our dreams. Pursuing dreams itself starts with a deep sense of desire for something, and it is this strong desire that gives us the power and resilience to attain our dreams, when the journey to get there is difficult, has twists and turns and may even be “delayed”.

In summary, we can all achieve Greatest and Become the Best we can be, once we know who we are and the purpose for which we were placed upon this earth. Having understood the assignment, we MUST  become deliberate and strategic, when pursuing our dreams. It then takes passion, purpose, preparation, partnerships, perseverance and prayer.
